Description

Awareness of Conditioning:
Finding Freedom From Our Personal Groundhog Day

Daylong Retreat – Feb. 2, 2019
9:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Saturday, February 2, 2019
Aptos, CA
with Carla Brennan

Like the Bill Murray character Phil, in the movie “Groundhog Day,” we are destined to repeat actions that undermine our well-being and freedom. That is, until we wake up to the reality of our life and learn to make wise choices. During this daylong, we will use our mindfulness to bring attention to our repeating patterns of reactivity. We will intimately and compassionately notice the repetitive nature of our conditioning, and how it can trigger difficult emotions and unhelpful impulses. We will meet these habits with openness, curiosity and care. And because “Groundhog Day” was a comedy, we will add some levity, too!

We will alternate between sitting and moving mindfulness meditation. The day will be mostly silent for participants. Instruction and short talks will be included. If weather permits, we will offer practice outdoors in the garden. For both new and experienced students.

Bring:
A bag lunch, snacks. (Tea will be provided.)
A closed container for tea or other drinks.
A cushion, if you want to sit on floor
A shawl or blanket for warmth
