DJ Juan Antonio Cuellar and John Leopold will present the history of the Arhoolie Foundation and their fantastic collection of Mexican and Mexican American music . The Foundation preserves and promotes American roots music including Zydeco, Corridos, Cajun, blues, folk, and sacred steel gospel. Celebrate day workers with refreshments and music expressing deep Mexican culture in our community and country.

Join John Leopold, Managing Director of the Arhoolie Foundation and Juan Antonio Cuéllar, Frontera Collection Curator to hear the story of Chris Strachwitz, an immigrant to the US who fell in love with American roots music and started the seminal label, Arhoolie Records. From his early days as 78rpm record collector and his love of “down-home “blues music to his work popularizing Zydeco, Cajun, folk and Sacred Steel gospel. His “mania” for music on the border helped him amass the world’s largest repository of Mexican and Mexican American music. Today the Arhoolie Foundation hosts the Frontera Collection with an array of different projects that tell the stories of the songs, the label and the musicians who have created the greatest oral tradition of the last 100 years. The program will feature music, videos and photos celebrating outstanding roots music.
