Event description

Description

"Go to a secluded place - a forest, a tree, a mountain, a ravine, a hillside..." So said the Buddha on innumerable occasions, when giving advice for meditation. So for this daylong that's exactly what we'll do: we will go to Harriman State Park and spend the day walking and sitting in forests and hills, amidst trees and waterways, allowing the serenity of the natural environment to seep into our hearts.

Bring plenty of water, a light lunch, and any other hiking gear you might need - sun hat, insect repellent, something to sit on (such as a beach towel), etc.

This is a "bring your own food" event; if you would also like to bring food for the monk, please notify rsvp@buddhistinsights.com

MEETING PLACE: Tuxedo Station (via NJ Transit / Port Jervis from Penn Station), 11am.

Bhante Suddhāso is a Buddhist monk living in New York City. The co-founder of Buddhist Insights, a non-profit organization connecting people with monastics, his work aims to convey Buddhist concepts and their practical applicability to everyday life. Bhante Suddhāso has studied under the guidance of some of the most important names in Western Buddhism, such as Ajahn Pasanno, Ajahn Amaro, Ajahn Vīradhammo, and Bhante Gunaratana. He was initially trained in Soto Zen Buddhism at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. Subsequently, he was ordained at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery in California, where he was trained in the Thai Forest Tradition of Theravāda Buddhism. Since then he has lived at a variety of monasteries from different Buddhist traditions in both rural and urban environments.
