Dawnland Online Film Screening + Live Q&A
Event Information
About this Event
Presented by ii’taa’poh’to’p the University of Calgary’s Indigenous Strategy, AIM-HI the Alberta Indigenous Mentorship in Health Innovation Network and Upstander Project
For decades, child welfare authorities have been removing Native American children from their homes to save them from being Indian. In Maine, the first official “truth and reconciliation commission” in the United States begins a historic investigation. DAWNLAND goes behind-the-scenes as this historic body grapples with difficult truths, redefines reconciliation, and charts a new course for state and tribal relations.
Join film participant Esther Anne of Maine-Wabanaki REACH, filmmaker Adam Mazo, and Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare TRC research coordinator and university professor Rachel (Yacaaʔał) George (nuučaańuł of Ahousaht and Ehattesaht First Nations) for a live Q&A moderated by University of Calgary's Dawn Rault after the film.
