DaVinci Resolve 16 & The Art of the Commercial

Join us Wednesday, August 28 for another lacpug Meet.

Television commercials have changed. No longer are they confined to 30 or 60 seconds. With TV subscriptions in decline, the traditional TV commercial has now gone online. And that has changed everything.

We welcome editor Lauren Dellara from Angus Wall's Rock Paper Scissors. Lauren has edited many commercials for such companies as Nike, North Face, Calvin Klein and more. Lauren will discuss what goes into creating an effective ad and show a few examples of her work.

We also welcome editor Zoe Mougin who also works out of RPS. Zoe has edited commercials for companies such as Facebook, HP, Google Pixel 2, Honda, Adidas and many more.

Also Paul Saccone returns to lacpug to show off the just announced Resolve 16.1 including the much maligned "Boring Detector." Paul also promises to show off "things you might not know Resolve 16 can do." Bring your questions.

Plus Stump the Gurus and World Famous Raffle.

Registration goes live Tuesday, August 13.

Agenda (subject to change and availability)

6:45- 7:15PM - Stump the Gurus
Join Gurus Michael Kammes, Jason Bowdach and the always fun and delightful TBA's as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning Resolve and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:20PM - 8:20PM - DaVinci Resolve 16.1 & What you may not Know about Resolve 16 - Paul Saccone
Paul returns to lacpug to show off the just announced Resolve 16.1 including the much maligned "Boring Detector." Paul also promises to show off "things you might not know Resolve 16 can do."

t change your life. Edit5 Consoles will be in lobby showing off Editing tables and chairs and there will be cookies. And water.

8:45PM -9:40PM - Editing Commercials - Zoe Mougin and Lauren Dellara
Commercials have their own unique requirements. What makes an effective advert? What makes you pay attention for more than 15 seconds? Editors Zoe Mougin and Lauren Dellara, both of whom work out of editing company Rock, Paper, Scissors in Santa Monica, will discuss the ever changing and evolving world of commercials and the art of the short story in the age of the internet.

About Zoe Mougin
A native New Yorker, Zoe grew up in a family that cared about the visual arts. The daughter of a ceramicist and commercial director, she remembers organizing casting tapes and traveling to remote film shoots. Her own journey into film and editing began at USC’s School of Cinema Television. It cemented her love of visual storytelling. She has a passion for fast-paced, and music driven imagery.

Since joining RPS, Zoe’s been able to bring her skills and drive to multiple ad campaigns. Jetting between New York and Los Angeles, she enjoys collaborating with the exceptional, creative minds on both coasts.

About Lauren Dellara
Lauren Dellara, born and raised in Los Angeles, began her career as an assistant under the mentorship of Angus Wall and Rock Paper Scissors. She has quickly built an impressive client base, with her most recent commercial project being Nike’s Dream Further. Other projects include Nike Basketball’s Chosen One, with director Hiro Murai — the creative mind behind Childish Gambino’s This Is America and Atlanta on FX — as well as, The North Face, Calvin Klein, additional work for Nike, Netflix and a music video for Sza’s Broken Clocks.
Dellara studied filmmaking at Loyola Marymount University before following the full path from intern to assistant editor to editor at Rock Paper Scissors.
