Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

The place is Airdrie, the year is 1983. Memorial Device the best band that never existed. Are about to change everyone's lives forever.

One of the most talked about novels of this year; This is Memorial Device: An Hallucinated Oral History of the Post-Punk Music Scene by David Keenan (Faber) is a dizzying, Joycean, feat of imagination.

Sex, obssession, life-changing music - if you grew up listening to John Peel, devouring the music press and arguing over band-names you will identify with the people and landscape conjoured in this great book.

David Keenan is the author of England's Hidden Reverse: A Secret History of the Esoteric Underworld and a senior critic on The Wire.

David will be in conversation with Matthew Jones (aka General Echo) of Warp/On-U Sound who had he been born in Scotland would certainly have featured in its pages. This event will be followed by an evening of music reflecting the book and David's interests curated by our friends, More News From Nowhere plus a plethora of surprises designed to delight.
