Event description
The Wedding Present and Cinerama founder David Gedge talks with Darren Hayman about songwriting and the business of being in bands.

About this Event

Number four in Pomona's Sleevenotes series is David Gedge, the founder of The Wedding Present, a band which has had eighteen UK Top 40 singles while maintaining a fiercely independent ethos. Formed in Leeds in 1985 and still going strong, their hectic, heartfelt songs made them darlings of both John Peel and the NME. On a hiatus from the band in 1997, Gedge formed Cinerama to explore a wider musical palette before reforming The Wedding Present seven years later.

His thoughtful, personal songs have received wide critical acclaim and picked up a huge fan base across the world. Here, he gives us revealing glimpses into the background of 15 tracks, including 'Kennedy', 'Dalliance' and 'My Favourite Dress.

Walthamstow Rock ‘N’ Roll Book Club welcomes David to the intimate surroundings of Mirth, Marvel & Maud for an evening of informative, revelatory discussion and music.

David will be in conversation with Darren Hayman (Hefner and many more) who also knows his way around a tune. There’ll be audience questions and opportunities to get a signed copy of David’s book.

With a carefully curated playlist from Julian and Mikki aka Disco 2000, we guarantee a unique, enjoyable evening.
