Event description

Description

Being a Perceptive Reflective Detective: The art and science of multi-sensory assessment.

The training will look at many aspects involved in this topic, such as sensory hierarchies, environmental adaptations, individual motivators, and postural needs. Looking for the right questions in order to get to the right answers, understanding why to assess, what to assess, how to assess, when to assess, and where to assess, and most importantly knowing how to interpret and respond to what you discover, will also be considered. The main emphasis will be on observational assessment and the ways that approach can be reconciled and melded with information from more structured or clinical assessment approaches. Jan Van Dijk’s “Follow the Child” will be the guiding principle.

David Brown is a retired Educational Specialist from California Deaf-Blind Services in San Francisco. David has spent 35 years researching and working with individuals with dual sensory loss. He is known internationally for his child-centered approach to working with children with deaf-blindness.
