Civilized but entertaining discussion about the highs and lows of dating in the DMV. Come prepared with your thoughts and questions.

About this event

NOTE DATE CHANGE: NEW DATE FEB 19TH. Same time, same location, same great experience!!!

How many first dates does it take to find your soulmate in the district? One? Two? Ten thousand?

From UPC's perspective, dating in the district comes with its highs and lows, the good, the bad, and most certainly the ugly. Year after year, thousands of unique progressives from around the globe transplant to this rapidly gentrified chocolate city, bringing along new ingredients to add to this scorching hot melting pot.

This is why we are pulling together a discussion around this topic: a discussion for the people and by the people. We've composed a laundry list of questions, touching on everything from online apps, to where to meet that special someone, to how long it takes black folk to settle down in DC. We want to hear from you because everyone's unique opinions and experiences can shed light and perspective for someone else.

Agenda:

- 5:00-5:30 PM - Initial meet and greet; food ordering

- 5:30-7:00 PM - Discussion

- 7:00-8:00 PM - Socializing

Format:

The venue will arrange seating in a circular roundtable format so everyone can feel engaged in the discussion. Event leads will consist of one host to govern the flow and two moderators ask questions to the audience. We will ask our pre-screened questions first and then pass around a microphone for audience members to ask and answer on-the-spot questions. Please arrive on time to order food, as it may be more difficult to order during the discussion

The Venue:

Kaldis is a two level social house with a large coffee lounge downstairs and bar/lounge upstairs. We will be upstairs. To get there, navigate to the back of the first level and take the stairs. They may also have a direct stairwell open in the front of the building.

After Party:

If you are a regular UPC attendee, you'll know that we always like to move to a second location (usually a place with music/dancing) to keep things interesting and mix up the conversation. After this event, we will likely head over to Society or another Silver Spring bar nearby. Either way, be sure to inquire what the plans are as we approach 8/9 PM.

Organizer UPC (Urban Professionals Community)

Organizer of Dating in the District (Part II): A UPC Convo & Me

UPC is on a journey Build the Black Inheritance. Our mission is to equip young black professionals with healthy habits that breed success in areas surrounding wealth, business, and personal growth. Such habits will include healthy money management, home investment, setting up passive income, starting businesses, and economic awareness to name a few. The goal is for these habits to become so ingrained in our lives, that they trickle down into our families, social circles, and overall community for generations to come.

Our events will include both social hours and mastermind sessions where we sit and learn from each other as well as experienced professionals in various fields. We each bring something unique to the table, and the idea is to foster a learning environment that draws from that collective experience.

If you support this goal and are ready to jump on the horse, please join us and bring a friend! We can't wait to meet you.
