Event description

Description

Calling on all socially conscious data scientists, analysts, statisticians, coders, hackers, designers, and eager-to-learn data-enthusiasts in the DC area!

We're thrilled to be hosting another DataDive-- a weekend-long event to get hands-on with mission-driven organizations' data to carve out some insights and build new possibilities for action.

Collaborate and engage with fellow data do-gooders as you work in teams to analyze, visualize, and mashup fascinating data sets to create real world change.

AGENDA

Saturday 11/3 9am-6pm: learn about the projets, choose a team and get to work!

Sunday 11/4 9am-12noon: final presentations and networking

Note: You can attend one or both days.

On Saturday, we’ll gather to learn about the projects and then we'll dive into the data! DataDivers will choose which projects they'd like to work on and form teams around their individual questions. Each team will have a Data Ambassador assigned to them who will help advise on and manage the projects throughout the day.

Sunday morning, we’ll put together final presentations to show the world what you have done with data!

PROJECTS

OpenQA

Red Cross

More projects and details coming soon!

OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE FOR THE WEEKEND:

  • Unlike a hack-a-thon, the goal of the weekend is not (necessarily) to create an app. Instead, it is to work with teams of experts to understand a truly difficult problem through data. You could end up with a visualization, an analysis, some graphs, or even some new datasets by the end of the event.

  • Github repositories will be setup to use for sharing code, data, and analyses during the event.

  • We do not assign you to a team. We want you to work with the problem and data you feel most passionate about, so come to the weekend with an open mind and be ready to learn.

  • You do not have to stay the entire weekend to participate in the event. We hope that you will find a project you can dig into, but you are always welcome to come and go as you please.

  • All skill levels welcome! Bring a laptop, roll up your sleeves, and get ready to make friends, build skills, and collaborate with other volunteer data science professionals and enthusiasts.

We'd like to thank our generous financial sponsors, Teradata and IBM, for making this event possible.

Thank you to our event host, Optoro, for the generous use of their space.

CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!
