Event description

Description

Back by popular demand, the IDI and Design Enterprise Skillnet are hosting this one-day Data Visualisation and Information Design workshop again in Dublin on September 9th

Aimed at Designers who wish to learn more about working with data, the workshop is facilitated by Information Designer Heather Griffin. It focuses on how as Designers, we can use data visualisation to communicate ideas and stories effectively, from interpreting data sets to the various approaches and data visualisation techniques. Strong narrative, well-edited content and infographics are just some of the techniques that allow the audience to easily understand the message.

Understanding and questioning a brief and datasets to translate it visually along with the appropriate output to fully engage with your audience are an important part of the process and the starting point of the workshop.

Attendees will learn:

  • Sketching & Wireframing
  • Produce an original Infographic
  • Packaging for both print and digital outputs

You will need: Laptop, Sketch Books, Pens

Essential: Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator

Trainer: Heather Griffin - is an information designer, working across digital and print formats. Her designs support various organisations in policy, not-for-profit, research, advocacy and development sectors. Heather has worked on a number of information design projects of complex data visualisations both static and in motion, for The Irish Independent, Board Bia, Media Standards Trust, Kings College London, UNICEF and Oxfam.

Heather's work featured in the data exhibition 'Place Your Bets' for London Design Festival, a London focused theme, that looked at the phenomenon of future gazing through the lens of data, visualising how we travel, where we will live and how we will interact. Each piece investigated a different facet of the city and gave evidence to visitors who, in turn, could form their own opinions and predictions.

Samples of her work can be viewed here: https://www.behance.net/heathergriffin
