Data Science Education Webinar: Hollylynne Lee
Event Information
Description
Join Hollylynne Lee of NCSU for a 2-hour webinar about data science education. The title of the webinar is: Impact of Data Presentation and Tasks on Opportunities to Learn Data Science Concepts.
In this interactive webinar, Hollylynne will provide participants with the same data set presented in different ways in CODAP. Through engaging with the data and CODAP tools, we will consider how different initial presentations and guiding questions may provide different learning opportunities for students and teachers to develop data science conceptions. Discussion forum data from teachers who used different forms of the data will be examined and discussed.
Dr. Lee's research interests include teaching and learning of probability and statistics, especially incorporating technology use, designing technology tools that facilitate students' learning of mathematics (e.g.,Probability Explorer), as well as preparing preservice and inservice teachers to use technology in K-12 mathematics (e.g., PTMT: Preparing to Teach Mathematics with Technology). She also is a Co-PI on the Noyce Mathematics Education Teaching Scholars grants and program that prepares teachers for working in high-needs school districts. Dr. Lee is Faculty Fellow at the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation where she is a Co-PI on the MOOC for Educators grant, lead designer for MOOCs focused on teaching statistics, and the director of the new HI-RiSE effort [Hub for Innovation and Research in Statistics Education].
