This event is a unique opportunity for you to learn about new SQL 2019, Azure SQL MI products, migration tools from Microsoft Engineers from SQL/Azure development team.

11:00-11:15 : Opening by Diponkar Paul (Toronto Local PASS Lead)


11:15 -12:00 : What’s new in SQL Server 2019  both on-premises and in-cloud by Buck Woody

 

12:00 -1:00: Big Data Clusters for SQL Server 2019* both on-premises and in-cloud by Buck Woody


1:00-1.30: Lunch and Networking


1.30 -2.00 : Fundamentals of SQL in Azure by Jeroen ter Heerdt


2.00 -3.30 : Azure SQL deployment options & tiers (Serverless/Hyperscale/etc.). SQL Migration tools to Azure SQL by Jeroen ter Heerdt and Buck Woody


*Many of the new capabilities in SQL 2019 are available in Azure (VM, DB, MI, AKS)

Speakers:

Jeroen ter Heerdt, Azure SQL Program Manager, Microsoft Corp.

 

Jeroen ter Heerdt is a Program Manager with Microsoft. He is passionate about ""all things data""; whether it is about databases, data warehousing, BI, Big Data, data visualizations, self-service BI, advanced analytics, real-time BI or anything even remotely related to data or insight. He strives to apply these concepts in his life as much as possible. Jeroen combines enthusiasm, vision and hands-on experience into fresh, entertaining and thought-provoking talks. He is also known as "Dutch Data Dude". His blog is http://www.dutchdatadude.com and he can be found on twitter at @jeroenterheerdt.

 

Buck Woody, Applied Data Scientists, Microsoft Corp.

 

Buck Woody works on the Azure Data Services team at Microsoft, and uses data and technology to solve business and science problems. With over 35 years of professional and practical experience in computer technology, he is also a popular speaker at conferences around the world; author of over 700 articles and eight books on databases, machine learning, and R, he also sits on various Data Science Boards at two US Universities, and specializes in advanced data analysis techniques. He is passionate about mentoring and growing the next generation of data professionals.

 

 

What is the refund policy?

We will not be issuing refunds. The fee is a nominal amount to help with costs and planning. If you can't attend, feel good knowing you supported the local tech community.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

We welcome anyone interested to learn what's new in SQL 2019 at the event. Please make sure you register, as we do need your name on the list prior to the event. We will not be accepting registrations at the door.

Is parking available?

Free Parking is available.

What can I bring to the event?

We only require your interest and probably some device (electronic or paper) to take notes! Due to the high number of attendees, we will not be doing any hands labs.
