Media outlets from The Guardian to The New York Times are investing in data journalism teams while journalists at other media outlets are undertaking efforts to tell stories with numbers individually. Using everything from traditional journalistic narrative to interactive data visualizations, publishers are upping the ante with stories based on a variety of data sources. Journalism schools are adding data journalism classes to their curriculums. But so far, the PR industry is nowhere to be seen. Communicators are missing out on a huge opportunity.
