Description

Data-Driven Discoveries in Precision Medicine (D3-PM) Ideas Lab

Through the Ideas Lab, we will be:

  • Defining the scope of the challenges in precision medicine that could potentially be tackled using innovations in data science and informatics;
  • Evolving common languages and understanding of research problems/data science capabilities among participants from a diverse range of backgrounds;
  • Sharing perspectives and understanding of the scientific and data-driven challenges, as well as the diverse talents from the UM System;
  • Taking part in breakout sessions focused on the challenges, using creative thinking techniques;
  • Capturing the outputs in the form of highly innovative research projects;
  • Using "real-time" peer review to develop projects at the Ideas Lab; and
  • Sponsoring resources to compete extramural funding opportunities.

Who Should Consider to Participate?

The success of this D3-PM Ideas Lab depends on having a diverse group of participants. Applications are encouraged from individuals representing research areas across a broad range of clinical and data analytics disciplines.

While we encourage continuous collaborations thorough existing networking, participants should not feel limited by conventional perceptions: The Ideas Lab approach is about bringing together people who would not normally interact. We actively encourage people to participate who are experts in their own research areas and are open to new collaborations and data-driven approaches.

Participants at any stage of their research careers are welcome; however, they must be willing to apply or being a team member for future funding applications.

Location and Date

The D3-PM Ideas Labs will take place on April 19-20, 2019 staring from Friday noon and ending after dinner on Saturday. Additional information about the venue and meeting logistics will be provided to the selected participants. It should be noted that refreshments and meals for all participants will be covered by MU Informatics Institute. For non-MU participants, one hotel night will be arranged by the institute on April 19.

Applications for this Activity

If you are interested in joining this Ideas Lab, please visit the Qualtrics site below and answer a few questions. In addition, please upload your NSF/NIH biosketch to the Qualtrics site, as well. A program committee will select up to 25 participants for this first Ideas Lab activity.
