Event description

Description

Downtown Arts + Science Salon (DASS) is combination of TED Talks and a local social club. Club in the historical sense, a place to exchange ideas on art, science and society, which perfectly defines a SALON—that institution that flourished in Paris, London and cities all over the world throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.

DASS SALONS are about rediscovering the art of conversation over a glass of wine, or two.

And our campus is downtown. SALONS are hosted by iconic venues such as the Olympia Theater, Miami Dade College, Books & Books at the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, galleries, jazz clubs, community rooms in high-rises and private homes. Yes, it’s bohemia at its best.

Here is a sample of 2018 upcoming salons:

January. URBAN CHOLESTEROL. January 17. An illustrated conversation featuring distinguished urbanist and architect Victor Dover, author of the influential book STREET DESIGN: the Secret to Great Cities and Towns. Also, MDC Professor of Gaming and Virtual Reality Martin Mittner. Professor Mittner has extensive experience with city simulation in video games, pursing different techniques for accurately modeling the movement of city populations in a virtual world, including traffic patterns. To complete the pannel, Ken Russell, City of Miami Commissioner and Candidate for US Congress.

February.
A CELEBRATION OF LOVE IN POETRY. Bilingual readngs with acoustic guitars of immortal poetry, including Nobel Laureates Pablo Neruda and Grabriel Mistral, E.E. Cummings, and Mario Bendetti. Wine and tapas t be served. This is an exclusive SALON for DASS Members. Tuesday February 13, 2018. 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Downtown, Miami. Specific location provided with Tickets.

March. Alexander von Humboldt: The Invention of Nature.
