Event description

Description

Which bird voice can teach you that a sparrowhawk is approaching? Unlock the secrets of the Dartmoor woodland, heath and wetlands by learning Bird Language, and the different voices of the birds.

Dartmoor is rich with native birds as well as migrants. Using their song to identify the Song Thrush, Willow Warbler, Wren, Robin, Blackbird, Buzzard, Crow, Siskin, Gold crest, and many more, we will also listen to their other calls. Understanding the difference between alarm calls, mating calls, and territorial calls can deepen our awareness and understanding of what's happening in the natural world, and strengthen our connection to the birds at this time of Spring.

To tune into and fully experience bird voices, the day will consist of an inspiring mix of bringing our different senses alive, sit spots, listening to bird song, and walking together through a dusk chorus.

What to bring: Sturdy walking shoes, warm layers, waterproofs (whatever the weather forecast), head)torch, watch/timepiece, something to sit on, and binoculars if you have them. And please bring drinks and a packed sandwich/supper which we will eat together before listening to the dusk chorus.

Where to meet: TBD

Cost: £35 per adult and £20 older, engaged children/teenagers under 16. Group size is limited so pre-booking is essential.

Cancellation: The walk will go ahead come rain or shine. Sorry no refunds if you are unable to attend.

Risk: No liability accepted for accidents or incidents.
