Who Needs Who, the new album by Dark Dark Dark, is a stirring and rich body of songs that sees the band breaking ground, and settling into the strengths of a quintet that has worked incredibly hard, both on the road and in their personal lives. The band's commitment to their music has proven to be a double-edged sword.
"Invie sings with a flexible, penetrating voice, shedding both light and shadow on the meaning of her lyrics." -- NPR
"Perhaps Dark Dark Dark's true accomplishment here is how they mix sounds and influences so effortlessly. They comprise a tight, intuitive unit, especially when the instruments swirl together into an otherworldly eddy of sound." -- Pitchfork

"Ms. Wells latest album, The Symphonies: Dreams Memories & Parties (creative control) is a warm, intriguing slice of avant-garde pop, and on stage shes a delight. "
WALL STREET JOURNAL
On her album The Symphonies: Dreams Memories and Parties, from 2008, the multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Wells layered her elfin voice over spectral string arrangements and brushstroked hip-hop percussion. The ten songs were symphonies only in the broadest sense of the term: the album is a highly theatrical labyrinth of rap, gothic folk, classical, and electronica songs.
THE NEW YORKER
Emily Wells is a classical phenom with a cutting ear.
Layering eerie strings, bleeping synths, and electronic beats under Biggie's rags-to-riches lyrics, she sings and raps like a feral, streetwise Nina Simone.
