Event description

Description

"In order for connection to happen, we have to allow ourselves to be seen. Really, truly deeply seen."

- Brené Brown

Life is full of uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable, or to dare greatly. Most of us have negative experiences when we have practiced being vulnerable and so we shut down to trying it again. Whether your arena is a new relationship, an important meeting, our creative process, or a difficult family conversation, we must find the courage to walk into vulnerability and engage with our whole hearts.

We will use the research and curriculum of Dr. Brené Brown to embrace vulnerability and imperfection, to live wholeheartedly, and to courageously show up in our lives. This is a psycho-educational (therapy and education) workshop which explores what it is to show up, live brave and be seen. What is getting in our way? How do we armor up when things get tough? How could we courageously step in to the arena?

During this 8 week process we will also explore...

- the beliefs that we hold which stop us from stepping in to our leadership, our creativity and our innovation

- the behaviors that we engage in which get in the way of connection

- the attributes and the barriers to empathy

- the incremental, small moments that can build or break trust

- the importance of vulnerability

- how to choose courage over comfort

Daring Greatly™ is for you if you want to explore how having the courage to be vulnerable could transform the way you live, love, lead and parent. The process is 8 weeks and attendance to all 8 is strongly encouraged. Weekly meetings will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday evenings. The workshop is intended for women 18 and older. Please contact met if you have any questions at whitney.kindredcounseling@gmail.com

The course will be facilitated by Whitney Walkenhorst (LCSW, LAC, CDWF - Candidate). Whitney is the owner of Kindred Counseling, a local counseling facility focused on working with individuals struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues. Since her start in the field, Whitney has realized the commonality in struggles and believes this workshop gives everyone the tools to make change in their life, regardless of what they are struggling with. Through this process she has changed not only her practice but her life by working on how to show up authentically and how to live wholeheartedly.

Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston where she holds the Huffington Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past fifteen years studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy and is the author of three #1 New York Times bestsellers – The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, and Dare to Lead. Her TED talk – The Power of Vulnerability – is one of the top five most viewed TED talks in the world with over 25 million views.
