Description

"Listen Closely: Listening as a Strategy for Design"

What is listening? How do we listen? Why? What does it mean when AI listens? When a drone listens? Do you listen to the voices in your head? How can we listen better in order to design? Just a few of the questions that Daniel Perlin will discuss in his interactive lecture, "Listening Closely."

Daniel believes that the best way to practice good design is by listening closely to users. He got his start in design making things with sound such as music, film, objects, and sometimes spaces. After a few years spent in Rio de Janeiro, he made his way back to New York, where he attended NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) and the Whitney Independent Study program. Following some time spent between art and interactivity, he found himself back in the open arms of experiential design and UX. His recent work has included collaborations with Google, IBM, Under Armour, Vito Acconci, Maya Lin, Errol Morris, Todd Solondz, Chase, Verizon the Cooper Hewitt Museum and Domus Magazine. Before joining Droga5, Daniel was a director of UX at Rosetta (a Publicis agency) and Local Projects (an exhibition and experiential design studio), both in New York City.
