Event description

DATES: September 6 & September 7, 2017
TIME: 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m (Each Day)
LOCATION: 7400 Coca-Cola Drive, Hanover, Maryland 21076

This presentation deals with the installation of a Danfoss FC-102 HVAC drives. It is designed to help you handle the selection and installation of normal applications. Because of the flexibility of these drives, there may be some specialized applications that are not specifically covered by these instructions. In that case, refer to the documentation that came with the drive for more specific information. This section starts with reference material, installation checks and then covers general wiring practices that should be practiced. Programming of the drive is covered in another module.

Session topics include:

  • Reference Material

  • Pre-Installation Checks

  • Physical Installation

  • Safety

  • General Drive Wiring Practices

Day One (March 1):

Startup Presentation:

Student will learn to:

  • Identify the reference material needed for a startup and where that material may be found
  • Safely apply power to the drive
  • Connect control wiring for various control schemes used in industrial applications
  • Navigate the keypad, and successfully program the drive
  • Safely check motor rotation and operation
  • Copy parameter settings to LCP

Beginning Lab Exercises (hands on time):

During the last part of day one, the students will move into the lab and familiarize themselves with the equipment. The instructor will assist the students in wiring a control box to the demo units and testing the connections using the diagnostics information available in the drive. The lab experiments will begin with basic operation and gradually get more complex. Groups of two students will share a trainer unit and work together on the labs. Each group can work at their own pace and ask questions as needed. Because some students might learn faster than others, they may complete more labs.

Day Two (March 2):

Introduction to MCT10 Setup Software

Day two starts out with an introduction to the Danfoss MCT10 setup software. The students are given a copy of the software and allowed time to install in on their computers. The instructor will demonstrate the basic functionality of the software (including reading & writing to a drive) in front of the class.

Continued Lab Exercises (hands-on time)

The students will be guided through more difficult labs, simulating real world applications. If the students choose to, they can use the MCT-10 software to set up the drive for these applications.

Bypass Operation

This portion of the class covers the basic operation and startup of the factory bypass option panels.

Basic Troubleshooting

This portion of the class will provide the student with basic VFD troubleshooting skills. It is not intended to provide skills required to make repairs to damaged drives, but rather to narrow the problem down to the VFD or the motor/application.

Testing and Evaluations

During the last portion of the class, the students will complete a comprehensive written test which covers the expected learning outcomes. The test is gone over verbally after everyone is finished. A class evaluation is the final activity of the day, which closes out the session.
