"Dancing with the GODS"
2017 Contra Dance Weekend
February 24-26, 2017
Registration opens Monday, October 3! Registration is online only.
Callers Gaye Fifer and Angela DeCarlis.
Why dance with mortals when you can Dance with the GODS! The Gainesville Oldtime Dance Society is hosting our annual weekend of contra dance with a focus on HOT bands and COOL callers.
These immortal musicians and callers will grace the stage in our 1940s era dance hall, the Thelma Boltin Center, and the atrium in the historic Thomas Center:
Steam! is David Firestine on mandolin, bouzouki, and mandola; Alice Boyle on fiddle and viola; Robert Rosenberg on guitar and banjo, and Claire Zucker on bodhran, concertina, and feet. Be prepared for the weird and wonderful from this fun, high-energy band. And make sure to wear your tie-dye on Friday night so you’ll fit right in!
BuddySystem is Julie Valimont on piano, accordion, and jawharp; Noah VanNorstrand on fiddle, mandolin, and foot percussion. Plugged, or unplugged, these two will rock Mount Olympus!
Gaye Fifer’s gentle, clear style makes her one of the most well-loved callers on the circuit today.
Angela DeCarlis grew up dancing with the GODS and has become an accomplished caller in her own rights, bringing a playful energy to everything she tackles.
Leave the cold and the winter weather behind, and plan your early Spring Break to include warm sunshine and Dancing with the GODS, February 24-26, 2017.
Schedule for the event will be posted in early February
This dance is not gender-balanced. All your partners will be heavenly!

Need financial assistance to attend Dance with the GODS?
The generosity of dancers has provided a limited number of “sponsorship's” for dancers who otherwise would not be able to attend the weekend. Both partial/full registration fee and some travel funding is available. You can request sponsorship funding for yourself, or you can nominate another dancer (but please make sure they are available and want to come!). Deadline for applying is December 15 and funds and applicants will be notified by Dec 30 of the amount of sponsorship we are able to grant. This sponsorship does not require any work-time exchange, but we do ask that sponsorship recipients attend and participate fully.
Tickets are non-transferrable.
