Dancing for Divas celebrates outstanding dancers/choreographers/teachers/directors in a one night program with international guest artists performing for their mentors. It's a benefit for Howard Community College dance scholarships, HCC Foundation, Bald Ballerina Fund, and Columbia Cares, a non-profit to help artists in our communty. We're in the planning stages, so suggest your favorite diva from Maryland colleges and studios. Eva Anderson (pictued) is our first honoree; we have invited Barbara Weisberger, founder of the Pennsylvania Ballet, Chrystelle Bond, founder of Goucher College Dance, Valerie Lash, dean of HCC Arts & Humanities, Toby Orenstein, founder of Columbia Center of Theatrical Arts and Toby's Dinner Theater, Caryl Maxwell, founder of the Ellicott City Ballet, Marilyn Byers, founder of Dance Dimension and modern dance programs for Maryland schools, Marcia Lachman, Columbia's first dance teacher, the late Anne Allen, founder of Columbia Multi-Media Dance, and the late Dottie Fried, founder of Kinetics Dance and dance series at Howard County Center for the Arts.
