Event description

Description

Among the first colonists to settle San Antonio were Canary Islanders, who arrived in 1731 and joined the military garrison that had been in existence since 1718.

In honor of the Tri-Centennial, the IFCC brings José Angel Pérez Fumero of Arona to instruct a workshop in dances of the Canary Islands. José Angel directs an outstanding performing group in his hometown, has performed in dozens of festivals and has instructed many workshops.

As part of the IFCC’s Tri-Art grant from the Tri-Centennial Commission, there will be no charge for the Canary Island workshops, but please let us know if you plan to attend. Donations will be gratefully accepted online and at the workshop, which will include refreshments typical of the Canary Islands.

Workshop hours will be 4 pm to 9:30 pm on Monday and Tuesday, March 12 & 13, 2018 with at least 4 hours of teaching per day.
