Dervish Dancemeditation™ is a unique, integrated, embodied meditation system for self-discovery, healing, & evolution. Through the cultivation of embodied awareness and present-ness, we explore relationships between self-&-other, self-&-cosmos, self-with-Self, and self-to-the Divine Eternal, and ultimately dissolve relationship into non-duality, into One-ness. Dancemeditation™ links you to the deepest roots of human quest for spiritual understanding and Truth. Dancemeditation™ proposes that your body is spiritual intelligence. Training focuses on listening to the body with curiosity and respect.  The practices develop trust and adeptness in this receptive process.

Roots
Dancemeditation™ synthesizes three large bodies of work: Art, Somatics, and Dervish mysticism. The materials resourced provide doorways and ignition points to embodied awakening and growth. We use a wide variety of breathing and movement techniques (see Basic Practices for a few examples) within a primarily non-verbal study environment to help us drop out of an over-active, distracted mind into intuitive embodiment. Inner & outer witnessing are balanced.

Basic Practices Sessions will include...

•    Opening Sequence: This breath-based fluid yoga emphasizes equality of awareness in all stages of the movement. Breathing motivates and roots the oceanic repetitions. The oscillations lull the cognitive mind and accentuate an understanding that the act of stretching, rather than holding, is continuous motion. This method engages our body’s fascial network, relieving joint stress.

•    Rocking Array: Each part of our body has its own voice and we strive to let each part speak. This might mean, for example, unhooking the shoulder from the ribcage so each can articulate distinctly. Rocking gently shakes these often frozen body parts loose, freeing them. Rocking is emotionally comforting and stimulating for the nervous & circulatory systems.

•    Sand Tracings: The prone circular & spiral movements of this sequence, done with awareness of skin sensation and gravity, encourage relaxed flexibility, whole-body integration, and coordination.

•    Zikr/Chanting: “Zikr” = “remembering”  and through the repetition of sound we remember how to heal ourselves and our world.

 

Couples Sensual Awareness Session will include...

  • Lead & Follow: Connect with your significant other through movement.
  • Compassionate Witnessing: Observe your partner with new eyes. Be observed in a way you’ve never been seen before. All without judgement.
  • Skin as Canvas: No, we’re not busting out the body paint, but we are going to use each others bodies as canvas on which to paint with our hands
  • Touch Without Expectation: This one can be tough... Focusing on breath awareness and the sensation of Touch, we will spend time in contact with our partners, without pressure or expectations. Take the time just to touch and feel how it feels to touch and be touched with thinking about what comes next or if you’re doing it “right”.  *Participants will remain clothed and any arousal will have to wait until you get home or at least into your car, to be acted upon.

 COMFORT ALERT!!! Yoga mats and a blanket are provided by the studio but feel free to bring your own blankets and/or a pillow or two to keep things warm and cozy!

Dervish Whirling Session will include...

•    Opening Sequence: This breath-based fluid yoga emphasizes equality of awareness in all stages of the movement. Breathing motivates and roots the oceanic repetitions. The oscillations lull the cognitive mind and accentuate an understanding that the act of stretching, rather than holding, is continuous motion. This method engages our body’s fascial network, relieving joint stress.

•    Whirling: Whirling is a dynamic Sufi purification practice. Begun by the beloved mystic, Jallauldin Rumi, it has been handed directly down in an unbroken lineage from practitioner to practitioner for centuries. At the same time it is inherent in all humans; children naturally whirl.

•    Zikr/Chanting: “Zikr” = “remembering”  and through the repetition of sound we remember how to heal ourselves and our world.

NOTE: Don't eat anything heavy before session. Give yourself a few hours to digest before coming to session. Bring fresh fruit and/or chocolate to share after session.

Breathe Deep Session will include...

•    Opening Sequence: This breath-based fluid yoga emphasizes equality of awareness in all stages of the movement. Breathing motivates and roots the oceanic repetitions. The oscillations lull the cognitive mind and accentuate an understanding that the act of stretching, rather than holding, is continuous motion. This method engages our body’s fascial network, relieving joint stress.

•    Breath Dances: We bring awareness to the continuous base note of breathing inside our moving bodies and experiment with different relationships to that pulse. Rhythmic & Non-rhythmic breathing

•    Zikr/Chanting: “Zikr” = “remembering”  and through the repetition of sound we remember how to heal ourselves and our world.
