Tata Cepeda Bomba Dance Workshop and Bombazo

About this event

Learn from the legendary bomba dancer and folklorist Margarita "Tata" Cepeda.

This event will include a 30-minute introduction to Bomba Dance and Open Batey / Bombazo with Tata Cepeda's 6-piece ensemble coming directly from Escuela de Bomba y Plena Doña Caridad Brenes de Cepeda, Puerto Rico.

About Margarita "Tata" Cepeda and Escuela de Bomba y Plena Doña Caridad Brenes de Cepeda

In 2001 Margarita "Tata" Cepeda founded the Escuela de Bomba y Plena Doña Caridad Brenes de Cepeda, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting bomba and plena as representative elements of the cultural richness of Puerto Rico. The organization bears the name of Doña Caridad as an act of affirmation of the deep love and gratitude that Tata feels towards her grandmother and with the purpose of highlighting the contribution that this legendary dancer made in the development of the bomba dance.

Tata Cepeda is an ambassador of our culture, a worthy representation of Puerto Rican, Caribbean and Latin American blackness.
