Dance as Therapy
Event Information
About this Event
Discover how dance and movement are used as psychotherapy. Explore the role of movement in non-verbal expression and communication, self-inquiry and integration, emotional experience, cultural and social behavior.
Dr. Miriam Roskin Berger shares ways to observe movement through the therapeutic lens inherent in dance therapy and also share some interactive movement experiences with you to illuminate the basic processes of dance therapy.
Dr. Roskin Berger is Director of Dance Therapy at the 92Y Harkness Dance Center and former Director of the Program in Dance Education at New York University. She has received numerous awards for her work in dance therapy.
Dr. Roskin Berger will be joined by Cecilia Fontanesi, PhD, R-DMT, CMA, a dancer, movement therapist, dance teacher and researcher. As a dance artist, she has been practicing improvisation, modern, contemporary and aerial dance for over 20 years, both in Europe and the USA. Fontanesi holds a Ph.D. in Biology Neuroscience from CUNY The Graduate Center; and applies her knowledge of neuroscience in the field of somatic education, movement, and dance.
