Monday, May 16, 2011 at 8:30 AM - Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 4:30 PM (CDT)
Dan Tow, one of the world’s leading Oracle SQL Tuning experts, will present his two-day "Top-Down SQL Tuning" at Benchmark Learning in Edina, MN on Monday & Tuesday, May 16 and 17, 2011.
This course presents the method that Dan Tow has used for over 10 years to tune SQL statements at all levels of complexity. Dan has documented this method in SQL Tuning, published by O’Reilly:
SQL Tuning offers a highly leveraged approach to application tuning in general, and you can learn to efficiently tune both your own and others’ SQL, even with minimal or no knowledge of the underlying application. The following paraphrases material from the introduction to the book, which also serves as a good introduction to the course:
There are three basic steps to SQL tuning:
- Figure out which execution plan (path to reach the data your SQL statement demands) you are getting.
- Change SQL or the database to get a chosen execution plan.
- Figure out which execution plan is best.
