Dan Siedell, author of God in the Gallery, a curator, and now a Presidential Scholar & Art Historian in Residence at The King's College, presents “Who’s Afraid of Modern Art?” — a personal account of his journey as a Christian and as a curator and art critic devoted to modern and contemporary art. The talk will offer a fresh and provocative approach to art and Christianity.
And Siedell's answer to the question he asks may surprise you.
Rather than a forced dialogue between Christianity and modern art, we see two genuine, agenda-less loves of both, striving to come to terms with each other in an honest, profound, and emotionally charged way.
The talk is based on the first chapter of Siedell’s forthcoming book of the same title, a collection of essays and reviews on art in conversation with theology to be published by Cascade Books, an imprint of Wipf & Stock publishers, scheduled to be released next fall.
The book will also feature a foreword by L.A.—based artist Robyn O’Neil, with whom Siedell has worked closely and whose work was included in the 2004 Whitney Biennial and represented by New York dealer, Susan Inglett Gallery.
This talk is open to the public. Free tickets are required for the public and students.
