About this Event

Happy New Year, everyone! The DG Footlights™ Series in Dallas /Fort Worth continues with our first reading and talk-back session of 2020. This month we will hear local playwright Straton Rushing’s new play, Enferma. The reading is free and open to the public.

Synopsis: In Enferma, Violet O'Neill is handed a cancer diagnosis, she feels she had nothing left to lose. In the coming months, she starts a new relationship, devises a plan to get back at her boss and tangles herself in a web of lies so thick she has to learn a new language to get out of it.

Straton Rushing is a playwright and actor currently based out of Arlington. Most recently, his play Round the Decay will be published in the Spring 2019 Edition of Bluffton University’s Bridge Literary Journal. In 2019, he had the pleasure of being invited to the Kennedy Center’s Playwriting Intensive and the Midwest Dramatists Conference. His show Douglas: The Play produced by SceneShop at Fort Worth Fringe Fest in September. His plays have been used by the Drama Desk-Nominated Emerging Artist’s Theatre, Capital Repertory Theatre, Kitchen Dog Theatre's 1 Minute Play Fest, Maverick Theatre Company, Otherworld Theatre, Nouveau 47 at the Margo Jones Theatre, The Player’s Theatre, TheatreWorks New Milford, Camp Death Productions and several other companies around the US. DG Footlights™ is a program, created and moderated by the Dramatists Guild, that connects dramatists with free space in which to hold a public reading of a new work that is currently in development. This initiative operates on a space-grant model: a representative from the Guild will arrange for a venue to donate space during allocated dates and times, and will ensure that the space is available for dramatists to use to present a self-produced reading to the public, with an optional feedback session following the reading. Attendance is always free and open to all.

We hope you can make it!!
