Description

The Texas Tribune is pleased to present a series of events focusing on the major policy debates of the 85th Texas Legislature — and what they mean for one of the state’s largest cities and its surrounding communities.

Join us in person or on our livestream for the second installment of this series: a conversation about public education, immigration, health care, spending, taxes and other consequential matters with state Reps. Eric Johnson, Linda Koop, Victoria Neave and Jason Villalba. Tribune Co-Founder and CEO Evan Smith will moderate.

Johnson, D-Dallas, has represented House District 100 since 2010. He serves as vice chairman of the House Redistricting Committee and sits on the Investments & Financial Services and Ways & Means committees, as well as the Select Committee on State and Federal Power and Responsibility. Johnson also works as an attorney at Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP.

Koop, R-Dallas, has represented House District 102 since 2015. She sits on the House Appropriations, Public Education and Calendars committees. Previously, Koop served on the Dallas City Council and on the board of directors for Dallas Area Rapid Transit and the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority.

Neave, D-Dallas, is currently serving her first term representing House District 107. She sits on the House County Affairs and Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence committees. Previously, she worked as an attorney in complex commercial litigation. Neave currently owns her own law firm, Neave & Scott, PC.

Villalba, R-Dallas, has represented House District 114 since 2013. He sits on the House Business & Industry and Economic & Small Business Development committees. Previously, he served on the board of the Dallas Housing Finance Corporation and was a member of the Dallas County Citizens Election Advisory Committee. Villalba is also a partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP.
