The Springfield JCC is proud to accounce our Fall Kickoff Event: David Dalin’s Author Talk on Jewish Justices of the Supreme Court: From Brandeis to Kagan. Dr. Dalin will speak about his book on September 25th at 7:30pm in the JCC auditorium.

The first comprehensive history of the eight Jewish men and women who have served or who currently serve as justices of the Supreme Court, this book examines the tradition of a “Jewish Seat,” the role of anti-Semitism, and the personal relationships and friendships that shaped the justices’ careers. Other topics include the changing role of Jews within the American legal profession as well as key judicial opinions on freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the death penalty, the right to privacy, gender equality, and the rights of criminal defendants.

Dr. Dalin will be introduced by Eric J. Gouvin, who is the Dean of the Western New England University School of Law. Dean Gouvin holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and J.D. and LL.M. degrees from the Boston University School of Law. His numerous scholarly writings cover topics as diverse as entrepreneurship policy, corporate law, banking, and international issues.
