Leading experts on family and child development agree that it is critically important to promote more father-involved families, encourage responsible fatherhood, and foster loving and healthy relationships between fathers and their children. Research indicates that children who maintain nurturing and loving relationships with their fathers (or male care givers) are more likely to develop healthy adult relationships and to be better fathers themselves compared to children who are raised without engage fathers or other male role models. This leads to greater outcomes for children and families including increased chances of economic and personal success and less chance of delinquency and/or behavioral and mental health issues.
The Fatherhood Collaborative is an advisory board reporting directly to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and consists of organizations and individuals dedicated to increasing awareness of the value of fathers and male care givers in children's lives.
