About this Event

Cygnus X-2 with Absent Lovers and Elijah Melanson present a show to celebrate the life of one of rock music’s true originals. This show will feature works from all facets of Neil Peart’s career, including readings of articles, books and lyrics, as well as plenty of plenty of Rush tunes played by some of Raleigh’s most enthusiastic fans.

Cygnus X-2:

Rush fans have a way of finding each other. In the case of Cameron Fitzpatrick, Warren Sharp, and Ryan Masecar, the connection was immediate when their former bands Stammerings and Kindler first played a show together - Cameron’s bass playing and high tenor voice were immediately evocative of that is Geddy Lee, and left the other two wondering how long it would be before they started their own trio playing Rush tunes. Turns out the answer was about three years, and now Cygnus X-2 are here to do Rush’s tunes justice, forty years after the tunes were released, but about forty years younger too. So if you missed the originals the first time around, Cygnus X-2 here to provide you with the next best thing.

Absent Lovers:

Passionate vocals and technical guitar textures weave between cybernetic bass lines and a matrix of percussive patterns. Urban anxiety, minimalist motion and a network of wordplay merge sci-fi synthesizers with progressive post punk. Darkly distinct dance rock for this dystopian present.
