About Community! Youth Concepts
Community! Youth Concepts’ mission is to ensure all Iowa youth have access to high quality opportunities that prepare them for success in school, work, and life. Each year, Community! Youth Concepts partners with local school districts, government entities, and non-profits to challenge youth to use their interests in ways that benefit the community and allow them to practice skills needed to be successful. Community! Youth Concepts started in 2008 out of a small room at 1408 Locust St., which was then the Des Moines Social Club and is now the home of Flynn Wright. Tickets to this event benefit Community! Youth Concepts. Website: www.cyconcepts.org
About The Books
The Silhouette Man, as told to Jillip Naysinthe Paxson by Greg Forbes Siegman tells the story of an educator’s efforts to serve youth in particular and the community in general -- and looks at the influences (including the arts) that shape his path. The First Thirty is the condensed edition of the book, intended for students. It was NSDLC 2007 Multicultural Relations Book of the Year. A portion of the proceeds from book and poster sales at this event are being donated to Community!Youth Concepts. Website: www.TheSilhouetteMan.com
Greg is the real-life educator the books are based on. His civic efforts have focused primarily on mentoring, education-based philanthropy, diversity, and the elderly. For his efforts in the community, he was named one of America’s Daily Points of Light. In 2008, he received the Portraits in Humanity Award in Canada – given to someone who has used the arts to make a difference. Website: www.GregForbes.com -Twitter: @aplacetosit
