University of Maryland iSchool will be the first and only academic institution in the country to provide this Cyberawareness training to professionals who serve as our first line of defense. Join Dr. Keith Marzullo and fellow alumni, supporters, and industry leaders as we bridge the gap on Cyberawareness, to support U.S. Veterans enrolling this fall in the CyberSec First Responder Training Course.

The CyberSec First Responder: Threat Detection and Response (CFR) training course will provide information professionals with the skills necessary to analyze threats, design secure computing and network environments, proactively defend networks, and respond to/investigate cybersecurity incidents. Individuals who complete the 40 hour CFR training course will have the opportunity to take the credential exam and become a certified CyberSec First Responder. The University of Maryland, and the iSchool, will be the only academic institution in the country to provide this training to professionals who serve as the first line of defense in the critical role of protecting federal agencies, corporations, and other organizations from cyber-attacks. CFR training courses will be taught by instructors vetted by the iSchool and trained by Logical Operations. The philanthropic support provided by golf tournament sponsors will go to providing scholarships to students who need financial assistance of the CFR training with priority preference to help U.S. Veterans enrolling this fall. The week long course will cost $2,500.

Dr. Keith Marzullo, Dean iSchool
Dr. Keith Marzullo is the Dean of the College of Information Studies (the iSchool) at the University of Maryland, College Park. He joined the iSchool from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science Foundation. He has worked both in the Federal government and at Universities, most recently as the chair of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at UC San Diego. He is an expert in distributed systems and related issues such as fault tolerance and security. He is a graduate of Stanford University (PhD, EE and MS, Applied Physics) and Occidental College (AB, Physics).

Mr. Michael Echols is the Chief Executive Officer for the International Association of Certified ISAOs. He leads a global effort to launch and support cyber threat information sharing and analysis organizations. Michael Echols recently left his role as the Deputy Director, Strategic Engagement and Cyber Infrastructure Resilience (SECIR) Division at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). At DHS, he led the Cyber Joint Program Management Office (JPMO) where he developed and implemented cybersecurity strategies to assist DHS’ to meet its cyber mission by identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of information sharing operations, technology and policy. In this role he provided national leadership for several White House national security programs. As the point person for the rollout of Presidential Executive Order 13691 – Promoting Private Sector Cyber Information Sharing for which he stood up a Standards Organization - he championed national resilience initiatives across Government, Industry, academia, and international partnerships.
