CWT Study Group - building web apps with Ruby and Rails
Description
This is an 8 week study group that will meet each Saturday to go through an online course in web development with Ruby and Rails. The $25 registration covers all 8 sessions. We'll cover everything needed to be able to build web apps from the ground up, including:
- HTML
- CSS
- Javascript
- Ruby
- Rails
- SQL databases
- Security
The course material consists of video lectures for a Stanford CS142 course made available online. The format of this group is that students will be expected to watch the class videos ahead of time and meet in person to work on the class projects. We'll have some experienced web developers on hand to help with questions that come up. We've also worked on a deal with Nitrous.IO to provide each student with their own development environment, so installation of ruby and rails on your own computer is not necessary, if you can show up with a laptop capable of running a web browser (Google Chrome is recommended) that you have everything you need to get started. The class material is intense, so expect to make a serious time commitment of several hours a week. However, not prior programming background is assumed. So if you've ever wanted to break into web development, this is your chance.
