Join us for a Cabaret Gala in celebration of Chicago West Community Music Center’s 20th Anniversary. Enjoy small bites, the company of other CWCMC supporters, stupendous performances by the students of CWCMC, and remarks by our two esteemed honorees.

Honoring:

Maestro Riccardo Muti
W.I.S.H Award for Distinguished Service to Music Education

CWCMC honors Maestro Riccardo Muti, Music Director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO), for both his outstanding work to support a new generation of musicians and his work to enhance the CSO’s engagement with the Chicago community. Maestro Muti has dedicated much time and effort to training young musicians with the funding of the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini (Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra), the introduction of the Riccardo Muti Opera Academy for young conductors, and support of the CSO's African American Network.

Robert Townsend
CWCMC Leadership Award for Arts in the Community

CWCMC honors actor, comedian, film director, and writer Robert Townsend for his commitment to the children and youth of Chicago’s West Side. Mr. Townsend is recognized as an outstanding role model for young people - demonstrating hard work, passion, and social responsibility. Mr. Townsend is best known for directing the films Hollywood Shuffle, Eddie Murphy Raw, The Meteor Man, and for co-writing, directing, and acting as

Merri Dee
Merri Dee enjoys a 50-year career in Chicago broadcasting. She became the Illinois Lottery's First Lady on WGN-TV, anchored the midday news and sports, served as Director of Community Relations at WGN, raised millions of dollars for the United Negro College Fund, several children's charities, spearheaded victims' rights legislation, and helped increase adoption rates across the nation.

CWCMC provides a safe, stimulating, and culturally rich environment in Chicago's West Side communities through high-quality music education and intergenerational performance opportunities.
