Event description

Dear Colleagues,

Please register now for one of our upcoming CWC Regional Networking Sessions, sponsored by our founding partner, CEDAC.

“Economic Impacts of Just-A-Start, Inc.’s Biomedical Career’s Program”

Just-A-Start, Inc.’s (JAS) Biomedical Careers Program of Cambridge, MA helps adults transition out of entry-level service sector jobs and into middle skill work after completing nine months of certificate training. The Center for Social Policy conducted an assessment of economic impacts that demonstrates wage progression for graduates, more hiring options for employers, and a public contribution in the form of increased tax revenues. These are just a few options for measuring economic impact that show how a program impacts the economic position of its graduates and the community it serves.

During the workshop we will discuss what an economic impact assessment is and the requirements for conducting one as well as cover some of the findings from our research, like employer perspectives on hiring. Specifically, we will:

  • Describe the Biomedical Careers Program at JAS
  • Explain why it is important to assess economic impacts of a training program, and what it entails
  • Review the results of an online survey of program graduates, including wage outcomes and typical career pathways
  • Present employer perspectives on hiring graduates and their outlook on the labor market, including working with recruiters
  • Provide employment projections for workers like JAS Biomedical Program graduates
  • Discuss the requirements for data quality and resources to conduct a study of economic impacts, and what can be undertaken with more limited program data.

The session will also include networking and resource sharing.
