#CutMethane for Clean Air: Capitol Steps Rally & Lobby Day
Date and time
Description
DETAILS FOR Bus from Philadelphia:
Last January, Governor Wolf publicly announced his intention to develop a suite of standards to reduce methane pollution from oil and gas facilities in Pennsylvania. Governor Wolf took a good step in proposing standards for addressing future oil and gas development but has yet to propose standards that would cut the methane pollution from operations already polluting our air.
Everywhere methane leaks from oil and gas infrastructure, it is accompanied by other air pollutants, including those that create smog and known carcinogens. Oil and gas air pollution can travel hundreds of miles and worsen air quality even in areas where there is no drilling.
Join concerned citizens and activists from across Pennsylvania for a rally at the State Capitol next week to call on Governor Wolf to fulfill his promise and reduce harmful air pollution from the oil and gas industry. 1.5 million people in Pennsylvania live within a half-mile of active oil and gas operations.
Our advocacy on this issue has reached a critical turning point, and what Governor Wolf decides to do in the next month will either make or break his ability to deliver on his promise to cut methane. This rally will be the most critical action in this campaign to date.
Polluters have already lined up a strategy to prevent Governor Wolf from developing the health and environmental protections we need. With the current all-out attack on air pollution standards from the Trump Administration, it’s more important than ever that Pennsylvania officials step up to protect their own citizens.
Please attend this important rally to demand protections from new and existing sources of pollution.
