Through this course students develop an understanding of wheelbuilding, maintenance, spoke calculation and concepts. Over the three sessions, students will lace and tension three wheels; the first wheel will be a practice wheel for our Everybody Bikes program. The second and third wheel will be a wheelset for the participant’s personal use.
Participants purchase parts through the shop at 25% off in order to hand-build a wheelset of their choosing. Prior to the start of this class students work with mechanic-instructors at the Old Spokes Home to select the proper parts for wheel construction.
Tuition fees support our mission to create access to bikes and the opportunities they provide for our whole community. Learn more about our social and educational work at bikerecyclevermont.org.
Students are encouraged to practice and apply their skills by volunteering at Bike Recycle Vermont. Visit our volunteer page to learn more about current opportunities.
