Current Management of Glaucoma for the Primary-Care Optometrist

These courses aim to increase the skills of the optometrist managing glaucoma in the primary care setting.  The major dilemmas in glaucoma management – glaucoma diagnosis, when to start treatment, how to manage progression, how best to utilize imaging – will be emphasized.

  • Course 1 – New Glaucoma discusses identifying early glaucoma in borderline cases, risk analysis, appropriate interpretation of structural and functional tests, and beginning treatment.
  • Course 2 – Established Glaucoma covers the use of OCT and visual fields in detecting glaucoma progression and the use of adjunctive treatments when patients require more than a prostaglandin analog.  Medical therapy, laser, and MIGS procedures are discussed.
  • Course 3 – In Glaucoma Grand Rounds, case presentations are used to further understanding of the concepts developed in New Glaucoma and Established Glaucoma.
