The weekend of February 17-19, 2017, over 100 Cure JM families from around the world will be attending the 10th Cure JM National Educational Conference and Family Fundraising Event in Austin, Texas.
The conference is a weekend-long event designed to help JM families, physicians, and researchers connect while sharing the latest information in JM research and treatments.
Anyone affected by Juvenile Myositis (JM), including Juvenile Dermatomyositis and Juvenile Polymyositis, is invited to attend.
On Friday, February 17, 2017, conference registration opens at 11AM and small-group educational sessions begin at noon. Friday will conclude with an early-evening meet and greet social time, including heavy appetizers. Families will meet other Cure JM families in a casual social environment.
On Saturday February 18, 2017, conference registration begins at 9AM. Small and large group educational sessions run throughout the day, with a buffet lunch and morning and afternoon snacks included. Saturday concludes with a family-friendly recognition dinner to celebrate the collective achievements of the JM community and Cure JM volunteers and fundraisers.
On Friday and Saturday, all participants are invited to attend a General Session with an elite group of JM experts who will give an update on the latest research and answer audience questions. Participants will also participate in small group educational sessions and connect with other families. A list of sessions is posted on the conference website, www.curejm.org/austin (sessions subject to change, participants will be updated of any changes).
On Sunday, there are TWO options for families to join their fellow Cure JM families and raise funds for Juvenile Myositis research. Families will either team up to kick off the exciting *NEW* Walk Strong to Cure JM family fun walk or run in the Austin Marathon or Half Marathon to raise funds for JM research. This is the biggest community event and fundraiser of the year and will be high points of the weekend!
Throughout the weekend:
Families, Caregivers, and Patients will get the latest information on Juvenile Myositis diagnosis, treatment, and research, participate in small group educational sessions and connect with other JM families
Grandparents and Extended Family will get the latest information on Juvenile Myositis and attend a Grandparent Workshop focused on the special role that grandparents and extended family play in their families and the JM community
Children will enjoy their own fun activities while their caregivers are in the educational sessions -- and back by popular demand, the Kids' Fun Camp will feature a Star Wars theme and fun for all JM children and siblings age 3-10.
NEW! Kids' Fun Zone! Cure JM kids and teens will enjoy complimentary time in the Kids' Fun Zone featuring inflatable bounce houses, arts & crafts, basketball arcade, games, ping pong, air hockey, toys, billiards, and pinball.
Teens & Tweens will enjoy a variety of teen/tween activities, including: Support and Self-Advocating (JM Teens Only, 14+), Transition to Adult Care Workshop (targeted toward JM parents, JM Teens 11+ and Young Adults). For all teens (including patients and siblings), workshops include: NEW! All Teens Art Workshop, NEW! All Teens Multi-Media Workshop: Podcast and Videos, NEW! Poetry Workshop, and All Teens Hands-on Photography Workshop.
Young Adults will have the chance to connect with other young adults throughout the weekend in a variety of ways, including a Young Adult Coffee on Friday afternoon, suggested for patients age 18 and up
