Event description
The main purpose of CERT is to train citizens to take care of themselves, their families and neighbors in the event of a disaster.

About this Event

The Culver City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters is built and enhanced.

The training includes hands-on training in basic disaster response; such as light fire suppression and safety, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster first aid, lifts and carries, cribbing and leveraging and more.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can also decide to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. In the event of an emergency the Culver City Fire Department can “activate” CERT to assist the city when needed. Members do not self “activate” unless there is a major earthquake affecting the city. They are contacted by the Culver City Fire Department to assist in the emergency.

The training consists of 3 Saturdays.

March 7 - from 9am to 3:30pm, and the classroom will be open at 8:30am.

March 14 - from 9am to 3:30pm, and the classroom will be open at 8:30am.
