About this Event

Enhancing the Practice of Medicine's Culture & Inclusion Committee is pleased to offer the first of its new lunch and learn series: Breaking Down the Walls.

Culture at the end of life

As the population changes, health care providers need to incorporate the various cultures of theirpatients into practice. Team members who provide direct patient care have contact with patientsspanning a variety of races, religions, ethnicities and array of other diversity dimensions such as age.

Providing culturally competent and sensitive care at the end of life requires health care providers todevelop cultural awareness. Many cultural issues will affect patients and families at the end of life,and cultures may differ in their preferences and practices. This is a free event; lunch is provided forthose who preregister:

We will conduct an interdisciplinary panel discussion to illuminate diversity at the end of life andprovide tools that team members may use to facilitate and manage care. We will discuss perceivedbarriers and challenges as well as celebrate the beauty of diversity. Because this is an interactiveprogram, participants will be encouraged to comment and ask questions.
