About this event
This educational program has been developed to aide licensed counselors, and other behavioral health professionals in expanding their understanding of the impact of culture, race, and gender identity within behavioral health services.
The goal of this program is to:
- Understand how culture, race, and gender identity impacts a person’s overall behavioral health.
- Gain knowledge of skills to become more culturally sensitive to individuals’ experience of culture, race, and gender.
- Complete a self-assessment to explore personal and professional biases within the provision of behavioral health services.
Program Overview

10:00am-10:15: Welcome, Introductions, Policy/Attendance Review
10:15-10:45: Cultural traditions, cultural trauma, stigma, and how culture evolves
10:45-11:15: Racial disparities, ethnic sensitivity, and how to respond
11:15-11:45: Needs of the LGBTQ+ population, how gender is constructed, gender roles, and how to approach pronouns
11:45-12:15: Self-assessment of personal biases and activity
12:15-12:45: Review of skills learned
12:45-1:00pm: Closing and Questions
