About this Event

The Behavioral Health Administration (BHA), in collaboration with the University of Maryland Training Center, will be hosting a training on cultural and linguistic competence (CLC) and culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) standards on November 1, 2019. The training session will be followed by webinars and technical assistance.

The goal of this training session is:

• To engage local behavioral health authorities, providers and the behavioral health workforce in interactive discussions and learning about the importance of data driven approaches and the use of such approaches to address disparities, disproportionality and cultural competence;

• To provide an interactive overview of the concept of CLC and the use of the CLAS standards in self-assessment as well as in assessing and addressing the behavioral health needs of all individuals served in the Maryland’s Public Behavioral Health System.

We are pleased to invite you and/or your staff to attend this whole day training session, presented by Dr. Karen Francis, Interim Director and Principal Researcher, Diversity and Inclusion, American Institutes for Research.

Registration will be from 8:00-9:00 AM and the training sessions will be from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and from 2:00-5:00 PM.

Please note that the morning session will focus on Data Driven Approaches to Addressing Disparities, Disproportionality and Cultural Competence. The afternoon session will engage participants in CLAS Standards Self-Assessment. These training sessions are consecutive and participants must attend both the morning and afternoon sessions to get CEUs.

This training will be held at the Temple Oheb Shalom, 7310 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21208. Please be advised that continental breakfast and lunch will be on your own.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited. CEUs and COAs will be provided at the completion of the full day training sessions.
