Cultural and Linguistic Competence (CLC) and Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards.

About this Event

The Behavioral Health Administration (BHA), in collaboration with the University of Maryland Training Center, will be hosting a series of in-person training sessions on cultural and linguistic competence (CLC) and culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) standards. These training sessions will be followed by webinars and technical assistance. Presented by Dr. Karen Francis, Interim Director and Principal Researcher, Diversity and Inclusion, American Institutes for Research; and facilitated by Ms. Jacqueline Coleman, Visionary Leader, Capacity Builder and Change Agent, Vision Que!, LLC.

The following four in-person training sessions will be offered during September and October 2019. Registration will be from 8:00-9:00 AM and the training sessions will be from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Participants must choose only one training location from each of the two training sessions.

TRAINING SESSION ONE

Data Driven Approaches to Addressing Disparities, Disproportionality and Cultural Competence.

1. Central and Western Maryland regions: Friday, September 13, 2019 at the Temple Oheb Shalom, 7310 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21208.

2. Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland regions: Friday, September 27, 2019 at Doubletree by Hilton Annapolis, 210 Holiday Court, Annapolis, MD 21401.

TRAINING SESSION TWO (Session One must be completed prior to taking session Two)

The Journey towards Cultural Competence: Engaging in CLAS Standards Self-Assessment.

1. Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland regions: Friday, October 4, 2019 at Doubletree by Hilton Annapolis, 210 Holiday Court, Annapolis, MD 21401.

2. Central and Western Maryland regions: Friday, October 11, 2019 at the Temple Oheb Shalom, 7310 Park Heights Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21208.

CEUs and COAs will be provided at the completion of each training session. Continental Breakfast will be served. If an interpreter is needed, please email Monay Walton at mwalton@som.umaryland.edu by August 30, 2019.

Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be offered for each training
