Event description

Description

Iowa is becoming more diverse and children are leading the way. While there are many reasons to celebrate the growing diversity, such changes also create challenges for individuals and institutions as they attempt to fulfill their missions in the context of racial, ethnic, cultural and linguistic differences. To respond to these challenges, Early Childhood Iowa has develop cultural competencies to help guide programs, services and systems addressing young children and their families. This training will introduce you to the five critical elements of cultural competence and how to apply them to the work of Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. It will increase your appreciation for why cultural competencies are an important part of your work and what strategies you should adopt to continue your journey and the journey of your organization toward increased cultural competence.
