Description

Connecting Cultural Competency and Trauma-Informed Approaches

For professionals and frontline workers in healthcare, education, and human and community services

  • Gain knowledge and learn about best practices related to integrating cultural competency and trauma-informed approaches in your work.

  • Provide care and services for those with diverse social, cultural, and linguistic needs, as well values, behaviors and beliefs, through cultural competency.

  • Hear experts on these subjects and voices from diverse communities weighing in with their perspectives.

  • Develop ideas to collaborate with patients, clients and community members to help you understand their needs and build on their strengths.

  • Identify and understand the nature and pervasiveness of individual, family, community and historical trauma using trauma-informed approaches. Aids providers and practitioners in providing better support for healing and recovery, rather than services and practices that inadvertently re-traumatize.

This session will be led by the Community Health Worker Network of Buffalo, who have trained and facilitated teaching and learning for hundreds of community members and a diverse array of professionals in the Western NY region since 2011. This program builds on the Cultural Competency and Health Literacy training previously offered to CPWNY network partners. It also fulfills annual PCMH requirements for CCHL training. Support has been provided by Community Partners of WNY, a NYS DSRIP PPS.

For practices of over 10 individuals, in-practice CCHL trainings are available. Any questions can be directed to Lauren Moore at lmoore1@chsbuffalo.org.
